Our Story

Mission Statement:

As disciples of Jesus Christ, the mission of Grassy Pond Baptist Church is to fulfill the teachings of our Lord by sharing His love and salvation with our community and world through education, fellowship, ministry, witness, and worship.
The church was founded in 1879 and is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention. The current sanctuary building is the third at this site.  Additions have been added as  needs have grown, and our vision is to continue growing as the Lord directs. A complete history has been recorded and can be borrowed upon request from Pastor Mark Gregory.

Caring for Our Community...

We get involved sharing His love with our community through ministry in various ways: Our Disaster Relief Team responds to disasters in our county, state, country, and in other countries.
We have a dedicated team delivering Meals on Wheels.  We provide the meal and staff the Soup Kitchen in Gaffney quarterly and much more.

Expanding the vision...

Grassy Pond Baptist Church stands at a pivotal moment of opportunity as both the congregation and the surrounding community experience growth. Positioned in the heart of South Carolina’s Upstate region, the church is embracing its mission to reach all people with the gospel of Jesus.
With the Upstate attracting an average of 30 people per day and the broader migration trends bringing diverse populations to the area, Grassy Pond Baptist Church is poised to expand its impact, deepen discipleship, and share the hope of the gospel with every person God brings to this growing corner of South Carolina. As new families arrive in the area, the church’s goal is to greet them with tangible support and genuine connection, ensuring that every person—whether a long-time resident or a new arrival—experiences the love of Christ through a community that serves them, prays for them, and walks alongside them in daily life.

Where is the Grassy Pond?

Many years ago, near the intersection of Highway 150 and Grassy Pond Road, there was a 3-acre pond. The community around it became known as Grassy Pond. According to a 1967 article in the Gaffney Ledger (reprinted September 11, 2019), "the pond covered around three acres, contained no fish, and was a haven for frogs and mosquitoes."  The pond was eventually filled in and farmed and is now overgrown with wild Bradford pear trees, but the community and our church retain the name.

The trees become a beautiful white forest when they bloom in the spring.
